Lucy, we’re going to "Play the Day"! .... Sydney Dickinson, age 77
On a sunny day, as my mom was following the ambulance with my dad on board, she gripped the steering wheel tightly, looked over at her dog, and said, “Lucy, We’re going to Play the Day!” At that moment, her 3-word motto was born.
What did she mean?
Resilience... when life hits you with terrible news or a diagnosis that feels overwhelming.
Perseverance... to overcome and struggle through the tough challenges.
Celebrate... when life throws you a fun and joyful opportunity, or small wins and victories on the journey, milestones, events, and the special people in your life.
Spontaneity... when life throws you a fun and joyful opportunity.
An example is of my mom embracing a spontaneous, joyful opportunity is reflected in the 2014 Super Bowl commercial she starred in that aired in South Texas.
Where we are now… our products
To honor my mom's attitude, legacy and memory,
I trademarked her motto and decided to create products that are symbolic of her vivacious spirit and embrace 4 of my values. Today, "Play the Day" means...
1. Celebrate the little things (actually, celebrate EVERYTHING!)
We feature celebratory products because Sydney found joy and humor in many moments, even challenging ones. So, celebrate the small victories and milestones on your journey, and celebrate joyful moments and people in your life. SHOP NOW.
2. Respect and love for nature and the environment
All paper products are made from 100% recycled paper, and we sell glass, never plastic products.
3. Support for small businesses
With all our products we strive to partner with small businesses as much as possible.
For example:
- MDCC prints our products on 100% recycled paper.
- National Etching engraves our motto on our celebratory glasses.
- BE Green Napkin Company is the source of our biodegradable and compostable napkins.
4. Give back
My mom believed strongly in supporting local charities. 10% of the proceeds from each sale will be donated to the Rivkin Center, based in Seattle, Washington, to support ovarian cancer research by scientists around the world. This charity is important to me for two reasons:
1) My maternal grandmother died from this disease almost 60 years ago.
2) My dear friend, Mary Anne, passed away in 2009 from ovarian cancer.
To date, we still do not have an early detection test for this deadly disease!
How we show up... committed to the environment
Respect and love for nature and the environment
My deep love of nature began as a child while camping with my parents and instilled my passion for nature photography.
All paper products highlight photos I’ve taken on my travels and hikes. Respect for nature drives product choices that are environmentally friendly.

2. The Eco-Coil spiral bindings on our quote/photo books, art pads, and journals are made from more than 96% post-consumer waste, manufactured in the USA.
3. We sell glass; never plastic products.
4. We choose Packaging materials that are meant to be recycled. (We do not use plastic.)
